I have a rock with a lot of mint green plays and some eagle eye zoos.i want to thin out the mint before it completely takes over as I would rather have more eagle eyes.can I just reach in and pinch off some of the open mints or is ther a specific way this needs to be done?

just cut/scrape them off. they have a sort of mat that they grow from, and scraping/peeling/cutting this off would help u in your venture.

Cutting in the aquarium, without dipping, could result in bacterial infection.
You'll take a chance.
If you remove from the tank, cut (frag) and dip them before return to the system, you'll minimize such risk.
Dipping the rock could kill some life in it also.
You could try to brake the rock and make two, so you avoid to touch the colonies.
No need for dipping that way.
Or you can just leave it to avoid anything, once they are healthy, cause I don't think it's that bad to have them like that.
Your choice. :)
