Why do I have misgivings about synthetic salt mixes produced in China? I would stick to well known commercially available brands. It could be just fine, or it could have even more variation and QC than the usual salts. I am not much for gambling any more.

That may be what the test batch read, my concern would be with how every batch reads and the purity of the chemicals involved. As I said, it may be fine but with all of the things that have come from China that were contaminated I would steer clear. The ingredients need to be consistently lab grade and I would have my doubts. China has sent this country numerous tainted products, lead based paint in childrens toys is a good example, and I know there are others but I would not be comfortable with salt mix that could have issues when salt is one of the cheapest things in this hobby, even cheaper than the RO/DI water we use. When you put in that context, using salt from a country that uses questionable manufacturing practices and does not embrace the same standards as other countries, it warrants caution. Are you not able to get reputable and well established salt companies to ship to Athens?

The price is not much different, it goes for about $100 for a 200 gallon bucket. However, I use Instant Ocean and Oceanic in a 50/50 mix because it balances out and makes a near perfect match for my tank. They are both the least expensive in my area as well. I am all for saving a little money, I just am not sure I am ready to embrace Chinese salt mixes.
