They are indeed awesome and sitting in cooled tanks. New South Wales water is pretty cold AND they are bottom dwellers in a cold land.... Brrrrrrrr! I hate changing their water.

Do you have to chill the water you put in for water changes?

We do, but we have a few chillers sitting around. Unless you keep your house at 80* or something, I think if you leave the water overnight at room temp, you'll be fine.

Speaking of Erosa erosa...

Our newer specimen:

What's interesting is that below the substrate line, the fish is its normal mottled reddish color.

Careful greg, they will think renee lied.

To clear up any confusion, I got it. Thinking it should be here Tuesday.

Congrats on the score Ryan! If I recall correctly you have a 55 as a coldwater set up right?

Currently no, but will by the time it gets here. Plenty of established rock on hand, just need sand and to fill the tank. Water is being made now and the tank should be running tomorrow. It will be the 55 too, hopefully I find the courage to try a blackfoot or something else too.

So far I did a temp reading and it has stayed at 68° all day with no heater or chiller. Though it is the beginning of winter and I bet I need a chiller come summer time. Tank is about half full and I need to get the sand rinsed and in and the live rock placed.

Here is mine a couple hours after going in the tank.

Maybe. Seems right now it wants to stay at the surface rather then the substrate. Probably stressed and struggling. I have tried to get him down, but don't have a critter keeper to hold it in. Will have by tonight though. Hopefully it hangs in.

what do you mean? constant swimming?

rayn
12/14/2011, 09:39 PM
Last night I checked it and it was at the top pf the tank swimming back and forth. If it swam down about a inch and quit it would bob back to the top. It was that way all night till I netted it and god it down in the morning. Called the wife this afternoon and it was buried like they do again. Im still watching it, but so far tonight it seems okay.

Rayn
Greg contacted me in regards to your fish. Frequently when a fish floats or struggles at the surface it's a swim bladder issue. however, I do not know specifically if Erosa sp are devoid of or possess atrophied swim bladders. Many scorpionfish are devoid of swim bladders, yet there are mid water scorpionfish which possess rudimentary swim bladders, and conversely a number of sebastes sp. and sebasticus sp. (substrate crawling) have functional swim bladders.
What I would may help is multiple water changes, good healthy foods, and low stews tank mates will helpnalot, otherwise if it's a swim bladder issue, it's often an infection.

Thanks! I can do water changes and I am testing the water to keep up on any changes to the chemistry. It is the only fish in the tank, so there should be no stress from others. So far tonight it has stayed on the substrate and not moved. I will look into feeding possibly tomorrow night at the soonest. If this should start again and the possibility of infection is there, what would be a good treatment?

Quick update, the fish is alive because it turned around. Still on the substrate.

Way to hang in there with it, rayn! The fish is lookin' great.

I dunno what it is, but everytime I see a pic of an Erosa, I smile a little...there's something I really like about them.

They are just so ugly, but cute at the same time. :o

They actually have a very cute way of begging...they will literally "bounce" like a ball and follow you around. They kinda remind me of tadpoles with personality.

We need a video for this... And pictures... Just nonstop film the tank. :lol2:
