hello,
I'm new to the marine side of things. I've had a 72 Gallon freshwater for awhile that I'm converting to a FOWLR. Glad to be aboard here!!

I'll be transferring the stock to a 55 gallon this weekend to begin my build.

My plans are:

1. I will do a sump (whether a premade acrylic or 20g diy is up in the air)
2. I plan to do a glass-holes 700gph overflow kit
3. Submersed Mag-Drive 9.5 with a ball valve to control output
4. Two Korilia 750s to start
5. Unknown skimmer at this time. Try to find one used preferably after I get a sump to make sure the skimmer will fit
6. A cheap T5 solution http://www.aquatraders.com/48-inch-.../52305.htm unless a used four bulb t5 is found
7. unsure on heater yet, obviously in sump
8. Ebay Refractometer
9. Paint the back glass black and ditch the vinyl
10. Two lockline pump returns with a current flow switcher
11. RO/DI unit from ebay or amazon with two 32 gallon brute trashcans for holding tanks.
12. Substrate: Not sure yet. What's the best cheapest option?

Welcome! Cedar Rapids Ia here. I started a 29g biocube in june, after a month it wasnt big enough for what I wanted so I just finished upgrading to a 120 2 weeks ago. Now Im thinking a 150 would have been better lol.

Welcome,

It looks like you have a 72 bow. I have a 72 bow as well and the biggest problem your going to find out is the space below. If I was you while its not setup yet I would completelty plan out all your space requirements.

If you go with a 20 gallon sump are you going with a long or standard tank.

With a long it will pretty much take up all the room under a 72 bow stand and you will have to use a skimmer that goes in the sump. With mine I had a 20 gallon acrylic wet/dry that I converted to a refugium so I had to use a HOB skimmer which I hung over my refugium.

So again, plan plan plan before doing anything. My tank is in our living room so I needed to make it very neat and because of this I had to put my heaters in the main tank, and my skimmer hanging on the refugium with a power strip mounted under there. I also had to switch from MH lighting to t5 because I had no place for the ballasts.

Good luck!
