So I had my live rock out to give them a good brushing, while doing so I heard some clicking from the one rock that was not in water. At first I thought it was a fish flapping around, but I had been careful to keep them in the open when removing the rock.
Upon closer inspection I see this guy....
I chipped the rock into two so I could get him out, unfortunately the one half fell and crushed him...severing his limbs. :(
Here's a picture of him.

That's a rare Smiley Face crab. They are worth about $10,000 alive I think, but only about $.01 with their limbs chopped off.

Nah, I was joking, but I really don't know the crab species. Maybe Gerritt will drop by and ID it for you.

Cheers,

Don

A new fish addition about five weeks ago had a slice out of him after his first night...I thought it was another fish or bacteria perhaps, but now I think it ma have been this beast.

Hi!
Maybe Gerritt will drop by and ID it for you.

Puhh, very hard tell wich species it could be. The pic is not good enough for a crab ID. But maybe it is a Carpilius sp.
