wondering what the bare basics for a tank for a breeding pair of clowns is?? this isnt a display tank, just a breeding tank for the clowns. I guess what im asking is can you just use a bare bottem tank with a few tiles or something for them to lay eggs on. water, heater, pump, light.....and pretty much nothing else? The reason i ask is this is how i do freshwater egg layers using a piece of fake spawning grass or other species accepted spawning site then remove it to hatch. what type of system to commercial growers use? I could care less about the whole reef thing, its strictly the fish and reproducing them Im interested in....I gave up on tank decorations along time ago for my freshwater setups, but this is my first venture into saltwater species. BTW I have several tank options avalible from 29g to 55g.

most clowns will breed in a standard ten gallon tank. all they need is a reliable heater, cheap light, hang on filter and a 4-6" flower pot.

If the tanks are stand alone, go with 20 gallon tanks for your small species, and 29 for your large ones. If they're all hooked up together sharing a sump, you can go with 10 and 20 gallon

You can divide a 20L into 2 sections, or a 55 into 3 sections and be about perfect.

I made custom acrylic tanks for mine. I have 4 tanks that measure 47x12.5x12.5 divided into 3 sections, like you see in a typical LFS.

and there isnt a tank on the place w a sump, skimmer or any of that stuff.......just HOB filters, heaters, standerd hoods...and all total theres about a thousand gallons of those from 150g down to simple 10s
