Last year i came across a website where a guy was selling filter socks that he makes himself. Actually found the site through reefcentral. I saved it to my favrites but it has been erased. Anyone know of these socks?? Or where to buy cheap??

You should be able to buy filter socks 4" diameter for under $10 at your LFS, the larger ones shouldn't be much more if any.

Yes you should be able to buy them online at MarineDepot, or DrsFosterandSmith, if your LFS doesn't have them. I looked, and they run ~10 usually less. Buy two, that way you can always have one in action while the other is being cleaned.

I'm pretty sure Bulk Reef Supply carries them.

+1 on BRS, just double-checked, they do carry them. It would help us if you told us what size of sock you need...

yeh I think Brs sells them for 5 bucks or so...less if you buy a bunch. sometimes if you buy other needed items you can get free SH

If you are looking for 7" filter socks, you can get the 100 micron mesh from tbaquatics and the 200 micron mesh from BRS. I like the 100 micron filter, but I don't like changing it twice a week so now I just use the 200 micron.

Disposable filter socks!!

I think I'm going to give these a shot! Heard about them on the podcast reef threads and seems pretty cool!

That's a great find. Wonder what micron rating they are. I'll order one and see.

I really want to try these too. Wondering if I can find them locally, but if not I will order some this weekend. I have a bucket with 7 dirty filter socks & installed my last clean one today. I really dont want to clean them.

Thanks for the heads up...

^^^ nice idea ...
my problem is when the socks get saturated they foam over and things get wet....

...and the 100 micron vs. 200 micron?
yeah I noticed that the 100 micron is a minor PITA, so I use them alternativley, both are pod killers tho...I gotta regularly shake them out into a cup and recover them

How do u guy's clean your filter socks? Can u put them in the laundry? Or just spray them out?

I run them through the washing machine, by themselves, not with other laundry.

I spray them off inside out, run in washing machine in hot water with about a "glug" of bleach, no detergent, extra rinse, air dry for a day or more.
