Not my idea :-) I heard about this on Reef Threads and followed the link on their website. It looks like a great idea! I brought it up in another thread and realized a lot of people haven't heard of them. I ordered some and will let you know how it goes. The link that was posted on Reef Threads is below. Btw, if you haven't checked out the podcast, give it a listen... Good stuff!

I also found a coupon code for free shipping that worked! C11125

Where did you get them, and how much are they?

Thanks. I'm particularly interested in how often they need to be changed, and also if they make your skimmer go ballistic like regular filter socks do.

I think it said he had to change them nearly every day.... That would def. be a drawback but we'll see... I don't know about the skimmer thing

Huh... I thought this would be more popular than this...

I'd change them twice a day if I didn't have to clean those reef diapers!! (butt you're right, it will surely get old very fast.)

I find filter socks easy to clean. Just a quick rinse cycle in the wash and they're good to go. Mine last about a week before they start to get clogged, so changing them everyday would be a hassle.

I think you may have more interest than you realize. I'm interested, just didn't really have anything to add. I want to hear what you think of them. I will admit, the price is very reasonable.

Just chiming in here after the comment about filter socks making skimmers go crazy. Care to share some info on that? My skimmer drives me crazy enough as it is...

I got mine today and installed it. 100 micron socks last me a week so if I don't have to change this less than a week, I'll be using this filter. I like the slim profile, I can see clear through my sump. Need to find a better way to clamp the filter to the 1" PVC pipe.

Are the socks 100 micron size?

There is no micron rating, the material looks like thick paper/ cloth-like so it may be 100 micron.

Make sure they have a way to overflow! I read that if they get clogged it could get messy if the water doesn't have a way to drain...

This might be nice if we could just line our reg filter sock?

Do you think it fits a 1.5" PVC?

no, max circumference is 4.5"

perhaps I should have ordered the 24" one. that should double the time before it gets completely clogged. I'll do that next time.

This filter is not feasible to use as aquarium filter I'd say it's probably a 50 micron filter (maybe even finer) so it clogged in about 12 hours and I don't have a heavy bioload I suppose even the 24" one is not feasible to use.

I cleaned my skimmer cup when I installed this filter and I did notice the skimmer neck and cup did not have the usual crud buildup but skimmate is still the same color as I had before using this filter.

Sucks..

Maybe it would be good for people who occasionally use socks for water changes or whatnot...
