G'day all :spin3:

I'm about to acquire yet ANOTHER stomatopod and even though the pictures are really ... crap, I can already tell from them that it may be the most colorful of them all!

I have a hunch its a O.scyllarus, the seller doesn't know the species and the most common larger mantis species are O.scyllarus with spearers being quite rare as hitchhikers.

Cheers for any ideas I know the pics are dodgy but I will upload better ones when I have it back here =)

That's definitely not an O. scyllarus, not to mention they are smashers not spearers.

Here's an O. scyllarus: (the leopard spots are the dead giveaway)

Not sure what you ment by there smashers not spearers, of coarse I'd know that lol... Peacocks are so common xD!!

I can't tell form the pic what species it is the only 2 things I notice are the orange/red dominant color and the oval/cylinder shaped eyes.

I can't see the other parts clear enough but, its the eye shape that confuses me the most mixed with its color.

Cheers for the comment!

The way you said "O.scyllarus with spearers being quite rare as hitchhikers" it sounded to me like you thought it was a spearer, no ill intentions meant.

I really don't know mantis species. I can only tell you what is a peacock and what is a zebra mantis, and what isn't. lol

I know you ment no ill intent =P lol

I sometimes rite in excitement like I did with this post so I suppose better punctuation would of prevented it. I ment them as two different things xD.

What I ment was, O.scyllarus are the most common LARGE Smashers found as Hitchhikers on LR down here.

And that spearers are very very rare to get as a hitchhikers on LR down here, you basically have to order a spearer and the species must come from within australian waters too and even then the wait can be months/years, I just got a message 2 days ago from a private collector saying he has now basically getting the mated pair of L.macs that I placed the order for over 5months ago =)

They guarantee success on capture so long as its in Australian waters, all they ask is unlimited time =) hence patience!
