tube anemone

during the move and the cycling my tube anemone has turned into a chia pet wannabe. His tube is over a foot long. my question is can i just chase him down his tube then just cut the top 2" of his tube off? because nothing can get close enough to him to eat the algae!

Is the algae stuck on really hard, or is it soft and easily torn away from things? I have a snail that is constantly a chia pet of varying degrees, and when the algae gets too out of hand for me to tolerate and the snail is in a good location, I reach in with feeding tongs and rip off what I can before it scoots away. Maybe you could try something similar but with gloves? Although I have been seriously eying tube anemones for the near future, I haven't had one yet, so hopefully someone with direct experience will arrive soon.
