View Full Version : Question aboust CS1 skimmer?

I am thinking about getting the CS1 skimmer and was wondering if I get the recirculating kit with it, can I hook it up to the MR5 Media reactor. I was looking at your site and I noticed that it looks like you have a picture of them hooked together using the same pump. If so that is pretty awesome and I will def buy it along with the reactor. Also if it does hook together it the pump that comes with it good enough to run both skimmer and reactor? Thanks in advance for the replys.

I'm also curious about this. Is the flow from a biopellet reactor enough for the skimmer or will the dwell time just be too long? The other reason I'm going back and forth on the recirc is that the media reactor would be driven via manifold off the return pump, which would already be partially skimmed.

This is a key advantage of a recirc skimmer. Running the output of a biopellet reactor directly into it will really increase it's performance.
You need to feed the whole system with a dedicated pump or off the manifold as Dhyslop describes. Reskimming a portion of the water off the return is not a problem at all, in reality it is no different that reskimming the rest of your tank water as it flows through the rest of the system.

So what you are saying is that I do not need to get the Sicce PSK1000 with it that I need to just get the recirculation kit and manifold off my return pump to it...That's AWESOME...One less pump to run. What is the optimal GPH that I should run threw this system? Should I just bump the flow up until my biopellets are tumbling nicely and let it run? I am sure glad I am asking these questions before I purchase it because I would have bought the pump and recirc kit...

You know what...Nevermind I just answered my own question and now that I looked at the picture again I feel like an idiot for asking that...lol...It looks as though you have the Sicce pump running and and sucking in water as well as I will be pushing water into it from the reactor. This wouldn't cause to much flow running threw the skimmer though. It seems like a lot to me, 2 pumps pumping in water to the skimmer. Or am I missing how I would hook this up all together? lol

The Sicce pump only recirculates water in recirc mode. Meaning that it is running as a closed loop on the skimmer, you will need another pump (or tee off a manifold) to feed water to the skimmer. Feeding enough water to tumble the biopellets would be a good place to start. Maxijet 1200 range pump.
