Hello all,
so being bored over the holidays, I started cleaning the overflow boxes of my tanks, to find the SPS tank has 5-6 HUGE apitasia in them .... !

I had some in the tank and my CBB ate them... but seems to have moved to the overflow.

should I drop a pair of peppermint shrimp in there ? they will just be siphoned to sump ?

block light and let them die ?

I cant get my hand in the overflow box to inject them unfortunetly.

any advice is appriciated.

I don't believe blocking the light would kill them.

If you anger them, they may breed.... I know some people won't like hearing this, but I would let them be.

At a conference last year, a talk about types of refugiums brought up having aiptasia in sumps/fuge/overflows. They're filtering stuff, right? There's nothing in there for them to sting, right? So if you have the population controlled in the DT, they aren't hurting anythin where they're at.

Totally agree with you on this. the overflow and sump is full of sponges and other filter feeders.

and the system is now running very low in nutrition, so the aiptasia has stopped growing as well. but Ive just seen too many scary pics of overflow boxes being filled with these stuff :)

your comment makes sense though ... Id probably just block the light, and see what happens.

thanks.

I wouldnt do anything.. let them have their light too.... Hell, let them run rampid in the overflow. I dont worry about any aptasia as long as its not in my display... I let all the others live.
