How Quickly Can I Lower the Temperature?

I added a second heater to my 40B mixed reef that was in a section of my house that lost heat last night. The second heater malfunctioned and stayed on some portion of the evening. The temperature got to 88 degrees before I noticed the situation. How quickly can I lower the temperature to an acceptable level?

The inhabitants of the tank include two BTA's that appear to be in rough shape. The LPS, clam, rics, and clowns all seam to be okay.

I don't know how you would really control the rate it cools, but I would just let the tank temp disipate on it's own.

You can freeze r/o to make ice cubes. Or you can take normal ice cubes in a plastic back and just float them in the tank.

Probably too late to help in this case, but for future reference, a fan over the surface will help cool as well.
