So I have ordered a vortech mp40W es finally and am pretty excited about it. Currently I have some korilias and a mp10. My question is, there is an upgrade for the mp10 available so I could use it as master and slave with the mp40. Anybody done this? Is it worth it?

I have a 75G and had two evo 1400s. I first replaced them with an mp40 and then later added an mp10. I run them in master/slave in anti-sync mode; however, I run the mp10 as the master because i can't run the mp40 at full strength and didn't want the mp10 to run at the lower speeds of the mp40. I set the maximum speed of the mp40 to be at the maximum speed that my softies accept which is around 3/4 speed, while the mp10 runs at full speed.

I run the same way. MP10 as master and MP40 as slave. I adjust the MP40 independently of the MP10. This is in a 24" wide 37 gallon tank.

Thanks for the input. Out of curiosity, what did you do for placment of the two pumps?

The mp10 is on the same side as the corner overflow/sump return and the mp40 is on the opposite side.

If you're talking about from an ES to a wES then I bought the chip straight from Ecotech and it only cost me ~$45 + shipping. I did it on 2 of my MP10s and it was pretty straight forward.

db, do you still run your evo 1400s or just the MP10 and MP40? I have a 90 AGA with an MP10 and MP40 on full power, and I still think its not enough flow. I have my placed same as yours. I am considering another MP40.

The mp40 arrived! Got it set up and now my mp10 seem super loud. Anyway, just tho would ask, I've got it on nutrient export mode at 75 %. Too much, what is everyone. Else using?

No, I run just the mp10&40...the 1400s would help, but I'd rather my space not be taken up by powerheads...I have considered getting rid of the 10 for another 40, but can't justify the additional extra expense right now.

I hear ya. Maybe when my frags grow out and I save $, I'll get another MP40.

@COD- I use Reefcrest at 100% most of the day... NTM after feedings for a few hours... Lagoon at Night Mode.

Whow! You can specify lagoon mode just at night and it will go back to "reef crest" or what ever during the day?

Haha... Yes, if you have an Apex controller you can switch modes at set times... I do it manually in the morning, home from work, and when lights out.

Your wet side and dry side may not be alined well. Put it on the constant mode (Green) and move the wet side until you hear the least amount of noise or put your hand on the dry side and feel the vibrations. I use touch rather that noise, and my MP40 makes little noise now.

I have also found that the wet side can move on its own just enough to make it loud it the glass isn't cleaned well before installation.

Let me know if that helps.:)

BTW I like the other purple mode, forgot what it is called lol, and Reef Crest. NTM is the loudest of all modes. I use it for a few hours before I change my filter socks, it really gets stuff moving.

I just recently installed 2 MP40's on my 220 reef tank. I was using 5 Korillas... The 2 VorTechs simply Blow away what I had before... The Nutrient Transport mode is sick... Makes waves...
My corals are doing so much better now... better growth and extension...

I use Reef Crest in AntiSync Mode.... Seems to be a good balance....

So in addition to the 400+ dollar pump I would also need a controller? I've only seen pics on various sites and it looks like it has a controller with 3 buttons, is that the manual controller?

You do not need a controller. All the mode are controlled in the MP40 controller that comes with the pump. You don't need any additional hardware to sync two pumps together either.

No, it comes with the controller to manually set the different modes. I was referring to automatically switching to various modes at set times (i.e. Reefcrest in morning for 3 hours, NTM in afternoon for 4 hrs, etc.). The controller it comes with just let's you to manually switch modes. You don't need an Apex controller to do that. I just got one to switch modes throughout the day and night for more random flow, but not needed. Most use one mode and stick with it.
