How does everyone feel about turning off powerheads at night?

I have a 750 and a 1300 gph powerhead (plus the skimmer output) in a 40B and the fish I think would sleep better if I shut one off. I was thinking of putting maybe the 1300gph on my light timer so it comes on and goes off with the light.

Also same question about the skimmer. Can I shut it off at night? It is a bit noisy anyway the fish my appreciate the quiet.

I would just leave them on. Certain fish require constant movement to get enough oxygen through their gills. I believe that is why clown fish are constantly moving.

Ocean is calmer at night ;)

there are 2 schools of thought on this ...

I personally leave everything on. as in our tanks PH drops as the lights go off, and you need the flow and skimmer to provide the oxygen needed.

some turn off skimmer at night, to leave more food for the corals, but this can cause nutrition ISsues !!! you are skimming only part time.

if you really want to, Id put the smaller P.H. on timer, to lower flow by a bit.

I can see turning off your skimmer at night to make things more quiet in the house but that's only if your not having any nutrient problems (algae, Cyano) Power-heads and return pumps are needed to keep oxygen in the water so they really should remain running..

also, most power heads can be erratic in restarting. I'd leave it all on..
