I'm upgrading my lights next week from the 2 bulb t5s i have to an 8bulb T5HO fixture, i have no coral, a few fish, and a few inverts. Would i need to take my time with lights or just put em on the tank and let them go?

The fish probably won't enjoy the million candle power upgrade but it will not hurt them, lights on!

A few weeks back I changed my lights from 2 bulb T5's to LED's that are considerably brighter. I just turned the new lights on. When I did, my fish immediately went into hiding. About an hour later they slowly ventured out. Several hours later they were happily swimming about. Seems to me they did their own acclimation.

Fish may get spooked initially but its the same reaction you'd get when someone turned the lights on in a dark room that you've been in for a while. Takes some adjustment time. Coral is a different story because they cannot run and hide and lighting that's too intense may cause them to bleach and die. Its all about the lighting requirements of the individual coral and where they're typically found in reef zones.
