How high/low should this be for return to sump

This is my first drilled tank with built in overflow box's. The return pipe to the sump in the built in overflow box... how high/low should I place it? Do the overflow boxes have lots of water or only a little?

This is a picture of it in stock length but its fully adjustable.

The nipple on top of that pipe should be below or level with the bottom of the overflow teeth. The overflow will be almost full when running water thru it.
