How many leds would I need for a 48 long X 24 front to back, X 21 high, mixed reef? Thank you in advanced!

That depends on what you want to keep.. A little more information would be helpfull

The last rule of thumb I heard was 1 per 12 sq in for SPS, 1 per 15 sq in for LPS and 1 per 20 sq in for softies. Based on my experience with my DIY rig I would say 96 on the high end but probably more than sufficient with 80.

Friend of mine use 72 LEDs ratio 24 white and 48 royal blue at his SPS tank 60 X 24 X 30. His SPS's look very good and he had been use over 6months.
