Aside from macro, what livestock can/should I have in my refugium?

Thanks

It depends on what you want out of your refugium. The idea of a refugium is literally to keep a refuge for species that may otherwise be eaten IE pods, macros. If you don't plan on looking at you refugium than there is little point in putting anything decorative or interesting that you want to watch in there. You would simply want to put species in there that would help with nutrient export

But if you want to keep a display refugium you could put anything in there that doesn't upset the balance, much like the display tank.

for starters you need a cleaning crew to go in there.

I dont keep anything in mine but macros. The only reason I have a fuge is to grow macros and to supply pods to my main tank. I just let it go and do it job. If you want you can put some snails in there or a fish if you want.

I agree that the whole point of a fuge is for refuge for pods and such, you dont want anything in there thats going to kill what your trying to produce

I was thinking of putting a small urchin in mine, how;s that? Does urchin devour pods too?

an urchin should be fine. I did some research about this when I was setting up my display fuge. Turns out when you start stocking it.....it's not a fuge anymore :) I housed a few fish in there that were getting picked on in the main tank and kept ending up in the overflow, but traded them off pretty quick. It's now houseing my mantis shrimp (I wouldn't consider it a fuge anymore)

So true never really thought of it that way.

I made the mistake of throwing an emerald crab in my refuge. Within 3 weeks, he's destroyed over half of my chaeto ball. I finally found him today and decided to throw him back up in the DT.

I do think that you should try snails, though. They're much less likely to start muching on your macro, and will keep the refugium clean from any hair algae.

could do things like feather dusters in there

i think mini maxi carpets would look great in a fuge. i currently have a purple lobster in mine.

LOL I see a lot of people changed the purpose of the refugium just like me. I thought about adding a saron shrimp to it recently:)
