View Full Version : Why are my zoa's closed? Lugols dipping advice needed...

I have multiple colonies of zoa's. As of the last month most have been closed about 75%. Only a few have actually open. I figured there may be nudi branches of some sort of pest. I did a fresh water dip and quite a few things jumped from most of the colonies. Out of 8 colonies 3 of them had nudi branches.
Almost a week later and they have been opening more but only about 50% now open and 50% remained closed on each colony.
What should I do? Continue dipping? I've been told to add lugols iodine solution to a bucket of my tank water and dip the corals in there. I may try this unless someone else has better advice...

I prefer coral RX, the lugols stuff is just so potent
When you did a fw dip, what came off of the zoas? Have you seen any egg clusters?

I found a bunch of pods fell off and 4 nudi branches fell off. I'm nut sure what the egg clusters look like so I wouldn't know what to be looking for.
It's just so frustration because I have a huge colony of beautiful mixed zoa's and only a percentage of them open up....

If you actually saw nudis fall off that's a definite problem. The coral RX is supposed to help with them

Had the same problem so I got a yellow wrasse, Halichoeres chrysus. No more nudibranchs, both zoa and monti eating. Almost sorry I got the wrasse because the zoa's are taking over one side of the tank, smothering everything in their path.
