quick ? about live rock

Hey I put some live rock in a trash can yesterday, No ammonia today. It looks like it might be cured rock. Shouldnt there be ammonia by now if not cured ?

The question should have been.How long does it take ammonia to get into the water once the rock is in there?

Stuff from the rock has not had a chance to die off and create a source of detectable ammonia. I think I would wait a few weeks--probably 4. Keeping the temp above 75 and aerate the water. Testing of course.
