New Tank Setup

I currently have a 20 long and a 20 high tank and I am planning to take both tanks down and place all the inhabitants into a 40 gallon breeder. I will not be reusing the sand, I will be using new sand. I was wondering if I took the live rock from the two tanks that I have now and put them into the 40 breeder would the tank go through a cycle? Could I just put all the corals and fish into the 40 breeder or will there be a cycle?

You might have what is called a mini cycle. This would be due to the rock being out of water for a short time and have some stuff die on it. I did a tank transfer, so I can tell you to have a few buckets of sw on hand. One should be for shaking the rock in, you will have some detritus on it.

If you go through a mini cycle just do some frequent water changes and maybe use a poly pad type material.
