View Full Version : Ph and lighting
I just upgraded from a current t5 fixture to a tek (both same wattage), Since there on the last few days my ph has been floating around 8.45 during the day and dropping to 8.2 at night. Before it was pretty solid at 8.2 all day, now i have been dosing sodium carbonate solution but im worried that this may be problematic now that my ph is so high. Should I be concerned, and if so what solution is recommended.
TIA

New fixture might be giving elecrical interference to your pH meter.
Sodium carbonate will increase pH but also alkalinity. If added more than alk consumption then it will rise too high.
Having said that, the pH swing if real is nothing to worry about and the pH is not low.
P.S. A change in biological activity due to change in light can also give rise to pH changes.
That is what I was assuming, the corals are just more active and such. I guess its a good thing.
