Does the Fighting Conch eat sand bed fauna like worms, pods, bacteria ect? I got one a few months a go to help with sand bed duties. Lately I have no seen the amount of super tiny pods and worms in the sand bed. Also in the last month there has been a green cyano problem on the sand bed and I think this may be due to the decrease in sand bed fauna. I dont have a dsb only about 2 inches.

I'm not sure if they do or not. I do know that I've always had them and rarely have cyano and other issues. My tanks were full of pods and worms before I started over with mostly dry rock, even with the fighting conch. I've been working with 30-40g tanks and one conch.

I have 1 in my tank, and it keeps the sand bed Sparkly white and free of any debris, I am about to buy another, they are fun to watch. My Diamond Goby finally found something it can't pick up and move over to a corner, like it does with my Hermits.

I really have to bring a bunch of buckets and air pumps with me next time I go to Fort Myers. Fighting Conch, Crown Conch, Purple Pincushion Urchins, some type of white hermit crabs, various starfish, even saw a Giant Hermit Crab last time I was there. :lolspin:

I think the ones found in Florida may be different then the ones sold in other areas though. I wouldn't call the Florida Fighting Conchs sand-sifters but not sure if the other types are.

Best sandbed cleaning machine:) I don't think it eats pods, they are too quick to it.

If the Conch is eating waste and algae, then there might be less food for your pods, so there would be fewer of them. so that might be why you see fewer of them.

Well I have plenty of pods just no sand bed fauna anymore. My conch is not doing a very good job at keeping my sand bed clean as there is green cyano or slime algae on the sand. My Queen Conch did a great job keeping the sand clean.
