I set up the tank and after setting up my LR I had an extra rock. Since at the time I don't have anything next to my mediabasket I put the extra rock in there. Will this cause a problem? If so let me know any info will be great. At the moment the tank has been running for a week and I have just a clean-up crew of 7 snails and 7 hermit crabs that seem to be working all day an night...

I did the same thing. My tank has been running for a year and everything is great. I also have cheato in the fuge area with a LED nano light.

I plan on doing the same thing but just out of cash and I want to let the tank cycle first..

Just be careful of a lot of detritus getting built up in there, especially if it's LR rubble.

I have been using my turkey baster and blowing the water around in the chamber. Do you think that will lower the chance of any build up???

I don't think it will be a problem at all. There is probably at least some flow back there anyway with the water coming from the media basket to the return pump. I had live rock back there before I got my fuge/media basket and it was just fine.

For what it's worth - I think anytime you can add more area for benifical bacteria (i.e. more live rock) it's a good thing. So adding rock back there couldn't hurt.

IMO it looks like you have enough rock in the display, so it's probably not needed. Won't hurt as long as you keep it clean though.

So does the hqi heat up like everyone says it does?

My tank only has a .5 degree increase at the most when mh is on. Temp increase will be different for everyone depending on the ambient temp of your house.

I dont notice much of a difference with the MH on our off. I'm worried when the summer hits that it will become an issue but I guess I will have to run the AC to keep the temprature correct.
