Hi , beginner here :spin3: today i wanted to ask all of you about my fish tank. so i just got a damsel after cycling and he won't eat , it's been about 4 days now. i always put in some food for him but he'll never eat it , it just lays there and i'll have to remove it or it'll cause ammonia. i am thinking of buying another fish tomorrow i think he's lonely because he's the only one in the tank LOL but if you can please just help . do you have any tricks that you use to feed your fish?

Since you're a beginner, here's the $1000 question...is your tank cycled?

And also, what are you trying to feed? What size is the tank? Any decoration/rockwork in it or is it an empty tank?

reefp,

Your tank, if properly cycled should easily process a single feeding, eaten or not. If the food is eaten, fish waste is procesed, if the food isn't eaten, the tank should still be able to process that amount, assuming you're giving the fish a proper portion.

What are you feeding the fish? There are lots of "marine fish foods", and some are better than others. What was the fish eating before you got it? Also, it's possible that the fish isn't recognizing what you're giving it as food.

A damsel will NOT be "lonely"...in fact, an established damsel will likely try to beat up any newcomer.

I always have Brine and mysis on hand for any new fish additions. It seems to be the easiest this to get them to eat.

Thats pretty normal. Ive had some new fish go a week or more before eating.
