Getting back into reefs. One question

Hi All,

It has been almost 6 years since I have gotten out of reefs and want to get back into them.

I recently received an Ecoxotic EcoPico 5gallon Desktop cube and want to set it up in my office for a desktop nano reef. I have all of the lights needed for corals and the filter.

My question is, for a protein skimmer what should I get for this little 5 gallon cube or is it not worth it and doing water changes every so often. RO water is easy to come by since I am in the phamacutical industry and can get ahold of gallons and gallons of USP RO / DI water.

just water changes IMO a skimmer is a bit much for a 5g

Thanks for the quick reply. Was kind of leaning that way. Hopefully get all the stuff together in a week or 2 and get it cycling.

Water changes and some purigen in the filter box, is what I would do, but then again I over filter like crazy. My 10 gallon probably turns over 600 gph in filtration =). So it cannot hurt to have one, but might be hard to find for so small.
