I am not sure what lights I want to get. I have it narrowed down to 2 sets. I know the are not TEK,ATI Etc, but they are what I can afford and what I think will work. Check out the link and let me know what you all think. These lights will be going on a mixed reef 40 breeder.

LED - http://www.aquastyleonline.com/produ...mable-Kit.html (These 2x with the heatsink fan) The 18 white,16blue, 2 UV

OR

T5 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/370573909640...84.m1423.l2649 (I would buy this fixture then buy bulbs from elsewhere. The bulbs would be 4xATI Blue+,1x KZ fiji purple, 1x GE 6500k)

They are going to equal about the same price at first, but I would have to replace T5 bulbs ofter and the T5 will use more power. Anyway let me know what you think. Which one would you use on your tank? A couple things I am looking at: 1. LEDs are still new to the reef system 2. T5s put off more heat, use more power. 3. T5s need the bulbs replaced every 6-8 months. That is about 130$ every 6 months) 4. T5s have been out and are a proven on mixed reef systems.

Your links don't work. T5ho's should be replaced every yr, not 6 mo.

http://www.aquastyleonline.com Check out the 36 LED dimmable. Those are the LEDs I was looking at.

Leds look like a good price wouldn't use the optics or the heatsink it comes with. The optics will give good punch but may cause problems with spot lighting. the heatsink isn't long enough. I put a 4.25"x16" heatsink with 12 cree 3watt leds with 70 degree optics over a 40 breeder and it covered a 2 foot long area.

I was going to go 2 times on the 36 LED. So it would be 2 heat sinks for almost 30 inches of coverage. I dont know anything about LEDs. So the optics are no good?

Basically, 72 LEDs split between to 15.8" heat sinks.

WOW 72 leds over a 40 breeder! 36 is plenty. I was going to do 24 leds cree 3 watters on a 24"x4.25 and see how coverage and par was and add 12 more if it needed it. I was getting between 40-150 par on sand in the center 2 feet of 40 bredder with 70 degree optics. The problem I think with the optics is they are such a small spread opti, either you would need to hang it really high above tank, or deal with 36 hot spots on the sand bed. I would see if they would let you get the 80 degree optics and get a heatsink somewhere else. I'm not sure if I'll go witha 24"x4.25" or find a wider heatsink for better spread.

After looking at the site they have 80 degree optics for .50$ a piece. I might try and upgrade to them.
