View Full Version : Flashing driver on 6055

One of my 6055's stopped working and stalled out, will not start. Looked at my driver and it's LED is blinking. Figured that the pump could use a good cleaning and maybe that was the issue. Took it out today and gave it a vinegar bath for a few hours. Knocked off all of the coralline algae and reassembled the pump. Tested it before putting it back in the tank. Nope, not working. The propeller looks like it wants to turn but won't and the LED begins flashing.

I may not have put the two wagers back correctly either. Can someone tell me in which order they go, please? Also, the plastic prop shaft and magnet of the impeller is oval'ish shaped on mine. Is it supposed to round or oval? I can't remember as its been a while and I can't recall.

Any thoughts?

TIA

The magnet should definitely be perfectly round. A flashing power supply generally indicates an overload/overheat due to the pump being jammed. Any chance of a picture of the drive unit (propeller assembly)?

It is broken, that is a drive unit from 2007 and the base should have a white plastic disk fused to it, they injection mold the plastic through the magnet to form that part. With the base missing the magnet can spin without engaging the propeller at all. If you remove the base piece which will look like a white washer down in the pump and replace the drive unit you should be back up and running.

Thank you Roger for taking the time to assist. I'll order a new impeller assembly. Do you know who stocks this part? Being down one pump really sucks.

I would just order it Tunze.com, it would ship from here on Monday if you order it over the weekend, we have them in stock.

Quick question; is there a difference between the 6025 propeller and the 6055? I have a 6025 and tried that one in the 6055 motor block, did the same thing.

A slight one, 6055 prop is bigger and the prop has a different fit on the magnet but it should work, only it would be more noisy. Any chance of a photo of the hole the prop assembly sits in?

I'll try and take some shots when I get home tonight. Won't have them up until after midnight though.

Thank you for all of your assistance!

Received the new propeller today and installed it. The driver is still flashing though and the prop jerks like it wants to turn, but will not. I also switched that driver to another 6055 that I have, driver worked fine. Swapped the bad 6055 to the other driver, still not working but it did not cause the driver to flash.

I'm starting to get the feeling that this is the motor block. Can you confirm this or give me any other ideas that you may have?

Thanks Roger!

I would need to check it out, but based on what you describe that is the most likely issue. I would send in the pump with the power supply for repair. Include a note with your phone number and return address-

Roger,

Thank you for your assistance. I'm gone this week for a meeting, but I will send it out when I return. I'll send the motor block, new impeller and the power supply for inspection.
