I added a pistol shrimp to my tank last night. Only thing else I have in there is a watchman goby.
I looked this evening at noticed the goby is missing a piece of his lip. I assume it was a case of mistaken identity.I fed the tank & he was eating fine. I also saw the shrimp next to him at one point. Does the lip grow back? Is there anything I should do?

Here is a crappy cell picture

What type of Pistol?

I put a YWG and Tiger together. They got along for a while then the shrimp ate the goby. Thought it was coincidence or sick fish so got another and added after qt. I saw the shrimp kill that fish and drag it into the den. So I got rid of the shrimp and bought a yashi and randalls pistol.

Doesn't look like either to me but the angle is wrong to see the pattern clearly. Definitely not a candy pistol though.
I'd say that shrimp is the definite culprit in tearing the YWG's mouth. Might think about getting it out. Which sucks because you about have to tear down to get it, unless you get lucky like I did and see it after lights out and far enough from it's den to get a net over the opening and scaring it into the net. But I was super lucky.

that looks like a bullseye to me from that picture which is a known fish killer.

With that claw its certainly not a candy and doesn't have the color for a tiger

I'm not to familiar with those. Banded and tigers are generally pretty safe. Which that guy is neither of those.

That is neither a Randall's (candy cane) or tiger pistol, both of which are compatible with a yellow watchman goby. The pistol you add needs to be a symbiotic pistol from the same geographical region as the goby. You'll want to either remove the pistol or the goby before the pistol kills it.

Where did you buy it? What name was it listed as...common and latin.

Looks like the same pistol I caught on a reef in Ft. Lauderdale. Mine has been living with my YWG in the same holes for almost a year with no problems. The pistol tolerates him really well as he seems to have learned to get food from him. I guess there are always exceptions to rules. Good luck!

Hard to tell but if it has a burgundy body with a whitish orange stripe running the length of its backthen I believe it is a blue legged pistol. I had one and it was aggressive and attacked my hermits. I don't know if it will pair with the gobies, I didn't try myself.

+1 Good find! That's what it looks like to me as well. I'm not personally familiar with them but from what I've read it sounds like they can have varying amounts of aggression and are more difficult to pair than banded and tigers. In my experience most crabs and shrimp are hit or miss in general so it could just be yours is one of those that is more aggressively mannered.

I messaged my local LFS, he's a great guy & I trust him with everything. At first I was suppose to get a candy cane, but they were really small & hard to find. He got bigger pistols in, which I have now. I forgot to ask him in the message last night to make sure what type it was. I sent him another e-mail late last night, so I will def. hear from him this morning. I also got the YWG from him. He wouldn't sell me anything that wouldn't be compatible & I know that for a fact. I'll get a better picture of him when they are fed this evening.

I appreciate the help!
