Yeah, that's normal with epoxy, most even say so on the package.

Do you just not use it or is there a system to follow afterwards?

I did this and it helped, simply take electrical or duct tape and cover the air pickup for the pump and poke a hole in it. By limiting the air draw it lowers the skim craziness. After a day or night of it pulling the stuff, u can poke bigger hole and so on till its back to normal

Empty and clean your skimmer cup before using epoxy. Remove the cup after the epoxy and let the water fall back into sump. Replace the cup once the dust settles.

I tried that before my method, It would have gone 5 weeks before it let me skim again. Hence trying restricting the air intake, and by removing the "dust" slowly and partial skimming for 2 days I was able to get back to full blown skimming quicker.

Not stepping on feet, just providing what worked for my super reef octopus.

I just adjust my skimmer way, way dryer than normal until it settles down. Usually I pull out a couple skimmer cups full of clear water and then it's done acting up.

Generally by the next day I can run the skimmer at the normal setting again.

Don't use epoxy and stick with good old dollar store gel super glue and your problems are over.
