How much flow should I have in a 35ish long. Im not sure exactly how many gallons it is cause it'd such a old tank lol. The dimensions are 36x12x18 (LxDxH). I have a fluval 306 I belive that's 303gpha I got a hydor evolution 550 and a maxi jet 750.... I was gonna two more hydor evolution 550 bt didn't know if that would be over kill. I plan on getting some sps and lps coral and a few fish.

for reference LxWxH / 231 = gallons,

36x12x18= 7776 / 231 = 33.6gal

I was told:

Powerheads: Should = 10 x (however many gallons your tank is) for instance my 72 would be 720 gallons so two maxi jet 900's would be sufficient

Main Pump: Should be another 10 times however many gallons so therefore a 1000 gph pump (take into consideration the head pressure... that is just the rule of thumb i used for my tank, and have no circulation problems...

Flow depends some on what you are keeping in the tank and personal opinion. A 35g tank should be somewhere between 350gph and 2400gph. Softer corals like the lower end of the flow spectrum and sps corals like more flow. Basic numbers run between 10X the total gallons in the tank to bigger aquariums at as high as 40X.

Sump return 10x unless you want to go higher, in tank anywhere from 40x up to 100x, with the x applying to the total system volume, not the name size of the tank. The tank above, though nominally a 30 gal, will not hold 33.6 gallons, rather less due to the measurements being taken at the outsides of the rim of the tank, so minus that and the glass thickness. However, system volume includes all the water in the system: tank, sump, in reactors, skimmers, in the plumbing etc.
