Is the waste that gets pulled include salt also? Or do I need to add fresh water to replace the skim waste?

Skimmer has nothing to do with salt. Evaporation is the only reason u need to add FW to your tank. Read up on skimmer u will find out.

If you are running your skimmer very wet, and have a small tank, the salinity/SG levels could, in theory, lower after time.

Or, as in my case, with a growing load of lps and sps corals, I'm dosing CaCl enough to start raising the SG and run the skimmer wet to pull some saltwater so I can replace it with freshwater and keep the SG from going up.

I skim pretty wet and replace the skim with fresh saltwater.

i skim at moderate rate (not too wet not too dry). i have had no issues with salinity due to skimmer. evaporation on other hand causes salinity swing but a good ATO and good level sensors can take care of that.

The water your skimmer pulls out is saltwater and would need to be replaced with saltwater. In most cases it isn't enough water to worry about. However, some people have even run their skimmer very very wet to remove the water for their water changes.
