Like the title says I am curious to find out what is regarded as the best nitrate test kits out there. I have the API, Salifert, and the Red Sea PRO. I am not really happy with any of them. The Salifert has this deal where you have to look through the side of then vial, and then divide by 10 for low level readings, but from the side the color is completely different and it becomes confusing. The API while being the simplest is just not very accurate at low levels. The Red Sea PRO requires having RO water on hand to read above 4 ppm, quite frankly the instructions are very poor, and too many steps are required, and the colors don't seem to match. Is there a simpler more effective option out there. Thanks

I don't know it's the "best", but my preference is Seachem. I find it much easier to use than API (I've only used Seachem and API). The Seachem test requires you to add a drop of solution followed by a tiny scoop of powder, stir it up, wait 5 minutes and then read off a color chart, which is pretty easy to read. No shaking your arms off like API.

My LFS shops all say that Elos is the better one to use. It's a bit expensive, but seems to work pretty good for me. I might try Seachem based on MuffsAbby above because the Elos requires shaking the solution for like 5 minutes.

I like red seas for my undetectable nitrates. If your NO3 is really above 4, I am suprised that you are having sensitivity issues with either red seas or salifert.
