Hey Guys,
Have been helping out a buddy set up his new tank. We set up his tank last week and got new sand and live rock from Aqua SD. The tank has been running with the skimmer on. This weekend we tested the water and I was totally confused.

Ammonia = 0
Nitrates= 0
Nitrites= 0

We didn't add a fish since that is kinda cruel, but there was die off on the rocks and also some dead snails in the tank. I don't see how it is possible to not have a cycle with the amount of LR and sand, but on the other hand I don't know how it would be possible to have the cycle complete in a week? I've always got my tanks second hand, so i've never actually had to cycle a tank or build up from scratch. Any suggestions?

Well if the rock was truly live rock, its quite possible that the tank cycled in a week. It might not of even had a cycle at all.

If its cured live rock I would not expect a cycle. I set up my 65 gal in December with 35 lbs live rock from the lfs and I never had any kind of cycle other than a diatom bloom 2 weeks in that lasted about a week and it was minor.

Yeah. This is such a great site its too bad we have this stuff. If I had a company like that I would just pay to advertise on here. Anyone that understands what we are all about wouldn't do this. I will specifically not buy from this guy because of this. I really try to support the sponsor companies when I buy online.

Lousy shillers :hammer:. All cleaned up, thanks for the reports guys ;). Unfortunately one slips through on the rare occasion.
