Hi everyone!

First of all I would like introduce myself as I am new to this forum. I live in Spain and I have around 3 years experience in marine tanks.

First I had a nano with a couple of clownfish and some softies for a year and then I upgraded to the 120 g I have now (moving to my current flat a year and a half ago).

I have some softies, Lps and sps. I have a prblem with some red cyano, and the color on my sps. I am going to describe my tank and what I intend to do, hoping that I can get some help and make my tank as I always wanted it.

First som pictures. They are a bit old, but I think that are better showing reality than myself writting!

So,
This is how the tank was when I first moved in the flat I live now. I moved everything but the tank and the table (which were new, as you can see). I had a slightly smaller tank in the old flat and I took the chance of the moving to change.

Now the tank is looking better than a few months ago, but the corals (especially the sps) don't have the same colors they used to have and I have this red alggae which is really anoying and tiring.
Now the tank has just the yellow tang, chelmon, 3 clownfish and a small sychyropus.
I keep the following values with calcium reactor: Ca 440 Mg 1250 Kh 8, temperature 27º, 1.025.
tanks size is 59"x23.5"x19.5"
My sump has firt a deltec APF 600 connected straight to the water coming down from the overflow. Then small refigium of alive rock and macro alggae, and then phosphate remover and a last compartment where I have the calcium reactor plus the pumps back up to the main tank.
Lights: 7xT5 80 wats. 2white 3 blue 2 actinic. All ATI
Water movement with 6 sun sun 5000 litres/h

Now let me show you the problem I got with a video recently taken. My apologies for the quality, but that was my iphone's best! I think you can appreciate what the problem is!

So, now I explain what I intend to do. Sorry for all the messages in a row, I just found it easier. I hope not to be too boring.

My idea is to change the skimmer and upgrade to a SRO PS2000 and change the sump distribution. First the water would come down to a refugium (nearly triple size of the one I have now, so I would bring some rocks down to the sump) with alive rock and chaeto. Then some filtre to avoid any solid rests go thrugh. Then in the second compartment I'd have the calcium reactor. and in the third, the skimmer with the phosphate remover, the pellets, and the pipe takes with the pumps (outside the sump). The idea is that all the spare food from the main tank is consumed by the refugium and the chaeto and then the water goes up as cleanest as possible. Given that I am feeding daily in the main tank I think is the best option.

What do you think?

many thanks in advance for your opinion. Advice will be much appreciated!!

Regards!

I dont have the experience to comment on the refugium setup. However it seems there is not enough flow in the tank to keep junk from settling on the bottom.

I have thought about that, but I have 6 pumps. They are chinese cheap ones but when they are clean they move a lot of water, they actually move the sand in some parts of the tank and you can see the bottom glass. Three of them are suppossed to move 3,000 gallons per hour, and the other three 1,300 gallons, but that's just in theory of course.

I have thught of buying a MP10 (low budget now) and combine it with the others to create turbulence. Do you think that could be a good idea? or is it a MP10 too small for a 120 g?

Thanks for your comments!

Sorry, where it says 3,000 gallons, it should say 1,600.

Looks really good actually. The dual Korallia look alike freaked me out. I had to do a double take on that one. I would not buy an MP10, you won't be happy with it in a tank of that size. Go for an MP40 at least. Or more koralia's. I have always been happy with them.

Hola IridescendentLily!

Thanks! Yeah, actually all my LPS look great. Its the sps and the red bacteria that are driving me crazy..

Hi Rotarygeek. Yeah, you are right, if I change, it will be for an MP40. To be honest, I am happier with the koralia look alike than with the real koralia I used to have. They just need a cleaning with vinegar from time to time and they work perfectly fine..

I am suppossed to receive the Super reef octopus SP2000 tomorrow, so I am going to wait a bit and see how that change goes, and then i will decide about the other pumps.

Thanks for your comments, I will update with pictures when the new skimmer is set up.
