Hi all,

I have a green long stemmed goniopora that has been doing well in my tank for several months. The last few days, one side of it quit opening up. I tried moving it a little but the problem moved with the coral.

Upon closer examination, I found 5 small snail like animals living on the side of the coral that was not opening. They are tiny, basically round and have hard shells like a snail. I pulled them off of the coral with a pair of tweezers. They are 1-2 mm in diameter. They are gray, much like bare rock. I put them in a cup of tank water. As soon as they settled, numerous filament like tentacles start extending from them. I tried to take a picture but failed.

I assume they were feeding on the coral and preventing it from opening. Now that I know about them, I can watch for them.

Does anyone have any idea what they are? I wish I could give a better description.

Any suggestions on helping the coral try to recover?
