Hi, I have a PR156W. I love the light, but would love to be able to dim it. Is there a way to upgrade the ballast, possibly with a meanwell dimmable driver?

The light fixture itself is dimmable, it's just the driver that is not. There is a Meanwell driver that will function with our light. If you are willing to do some retrofitting, it is not difficult to do. You can contact us directly for additional info.

I sent a message to the Orphek head office to advise them of your email. I only service Canada so I only get [email protected] email.

A dimmer retrofit kit does not exist, but it is currently being developed. The PR 156 you have has two drivers, one for the daylight and one for the dawn/dusk chips. The daylight driver can be swapped for a dimmable driver, and an RJ45 connection can be added to control dimming via an aquarium controller such as Neptune or GHL.

The new PR 156 has 5 separate channels/drivers, so the dimming mechanism cannot be adapted to your light.

I will post an update in a few days when I have more information.

if i use the pr156w on a 125 gallon tank thats 72"long x 18" wide and 22" tall how many units would i need and rough spacing ideas(distance apart and distance above water). i plan on a reef tank with fish softies and lps to start. maybe sps in the future.

I'm using a single PR156w on a 36x24x24. It's about 12 inches off of the water. It
s plenty of light. You could go with 2 lights easy.

thanks. i haven't had a tank in about 10 years and things have changed a bit. i used to have a 60 gallon with just a few soft corals. i just bought a 125 gallon with stand 2 gen x pumps, 1 hob overflow, 2 mh ballasts each with 2 175 watt outlets. all for $250. now that i have a direction i sold the overflow, 1 pump, and the light ballasts for $230. so the tank cost me 20 bucks and i still have a gen-x external pump capable of 1200 gph.

sorry for rambling i'm excited about the build especially now that i know what lights i want.

Nano Mania is correct. You can light your 72" tank with 2 of the 156 series of lights.

The height and angle adjustment will give you the look that you are trying to achieve and it will be a matter of adjusting them a couple of times to achieve the perfect look.

The PR 156 has two drivers, one to power the four 1.8w blue moonlights, and one to run the remaining 56 x 1.8w chips of mixed colours (royal blue, 16k, UV, red, depending on your fixture configuration/version).

The larger (100w) driver can be replaced with a Mean Well dimmable driver (48v, 2A, 96w). Inventronics also makes a dimmable driver with the same specs. These are readily available from many online LED retailers. You will have to install a potentiometer in the driver box, or run the two dimmer wires to a 0-10v or PWM controller.

At this point in time, Orphek does not provide a kit to make these alterations.

Does Peter also use the Orphek? Is it safe to rn that much PAR on corals the video showed levels at almost 1000

Peter is using Orphek lighting exclusively on his 1350 gallon tank. They are in stock at my store "Coral Reef Shop" in Burlington. Our store is also lit exclusively by Orphek lighting.
