I saw something I thought was interesting. The technical specifications of schedule 40 vs. schedule 80 pvc. Apparently the outer dimensions are the same, but the inner on schedule 80 is narrower. This would equal less waterflow. The specifications indicate the difference is more important at higher sizes, like 2" and above.

I might actually stick to schedule 40 as much as possible, and plumb just the ends of a plumbing system in schedule 80.

You don't need sch 80 and you don't even need sch 40, you could be just fine with class 200.

+100000 class 200 is rated for 200 psi static pressure. In our systems you wont have that kind of pressures. The higher in sch the less flow you will get. Flow is what you are after. The only reason you would need sch 80 would be for looks.

Agreed with both the previous posts. Our systems will never reach the pressure ratings of class 200 (which is normally used for sprinker systems) nor sch40 or sch80. The pressure ratings for sch40 is 400 plus. Sch80, well above that. If we wanted to, we can even use ABS pipe & fittings. This material is for use of drainage and vent within our homes. The only problems with ABS fittings is that it may not go below 1" but don't quote me on that, I may be wrong on the size that ABS goes down to.

One can even use electrical conduit for its OD is the same as sch40 & sch80. What the electricians use this pipe for is to run their wires through. The good thing about electrical conduit is that they incorporate sweeps and not 90's. This may be beneficial to us in that it may not count as a true 90 since the flow does not come to an abrupt stop and then switch directions.

People generally only use sch80 (besides the valves and unions) because it looks better.

ABS does not go down that far. Its generally used for waste pipe and you need larger id to flow waste.
