View Full Version : 3 MP40's or 1 MP40 and an MP60?

I just picked up an MP40wES for my standard 180 soon-to-be SPS dominated setup and am looking for some input on what my next step should be. The tanks glass is 1/2" thick, 2 island setup.

Basically, whats my better option as both will cost me roughly the same if not slightly cheaper if I find a used MP60.

Thanks!

or can I get away with just a pair of 40's?

A pair of 40's should be fine IMO.

Two MP40wES pumps should work well. I would personally go with one MP40wES and one MP60wES.

is the mp60 + mp40 combo favorable over 3 x mp40's for a standard 180?

thanks,

following along. I have the same question.

I've also heard a single mp60 is just as good as 2 mp40's, but i like the idea of 1 mp40 and 1mp60.

and if 1 mp60 and 1mp40, would you put both mp's on the same side lengthwise? or one on each end?
or would you put the mp60 lengthwise and the mp40 perpendicular?

Its either 1 x MP40 on the 2 sides and back (middle) or an mp40 on one side and the mp60 on another facing each other. still unsure on what direction would be ideal for my application.

It's really personal preference, but if you can swing for the MP60 (especially paired with a 40) it would be an awesome pair for your 180G.
