View Full Version : What do the mods do?

I have been "working" with the mods to try to figure out my recent violation, which I deserve for starting all this trouble... It occurred to me that the mods are pretty quick to respond back to me regarding my questions. I am squeezing the Pm's into my free time at school but would imagine it would be tough to do in most lines of work. What do the RC mods do for a living?

I've wondered that too. I often feel I wish I could volunteer to do stuff like that but when I think of the time they must spend moderating it seems like a full time job. (also squeezing this from work).

It is a volunteer thing right? I'll be honest, I'm not sure I would want to have to watch over RC with all the selling, buying and stupid fights that go on (mine included).

They do all the same things we do... Jobs, systems, families, etc... And yes, its completely volunteer....

Yes, either they are on here a lot of time or they just have a lot of mods. I couldn't believe I got an infraction after ONE post with a Ron Paul avatar.

is it against the rules to have a politcal figure in your avatar? that seems strange to me, although its not my forum

i can understand the political stance . I have seen some viscous things posted on other sites that allow politics.

what it comes down to, is it is THEIR site... not yours, mine, or CTARS... its a privelage to be able to post here and share and learn from someone else's hard work... the mods decisions and the way they run things really should be respected, ESPECIALLY that of the administrator... as you would appreciate, if you were the one who created this site... people are continueing to push the issue... it really isnt a wise thing to do... as like in my own bar, i dont appreciate people getting into things like politics and religion, becuz if the person next to them disagrees, it can open a hole can of worms i want no part of at my own venue... and i can understand where the mods/admin would try to avoid that as well... this is a fish site, not one to start posting political figures or pushing beliefs...

jus sayin ;)

as with everything else i say and do, take it with a grain of salt, cuz 99% of the time, i have no clue what i am talking about ;)

I'm not complaining about getting the infraction, I was just shocked at the speed it was given. I was unaware of the rule, I just figured we couldn't talk about religion/politics didn't think avatars/signatures mattered.

Well said Neal. After acting as a mod on another forum I truly appreciate the amount of garbage that the RC mods put up with. It's easy to criticize their decisions, but after the amount of time spent daily cleaning up the bickering amongst adults, it's easy to see why they have little tolerance for something that we may deem "minor." Ultimately, it really doesn't matter how we feel about their decisions because we are guests on their forum...

Actually, the user agreement that you electronically "sign" when you register mentions that religion and politics are off limits and the fact that it applies to avatars/profiles.

Honestly infractions are just automated warnings. They automatically expire and you have to do several "bad" things over time for them to add up to the point that anything happens to your account. Even then, once they expire things return to normal.

Re: the speed of the infraction. Most of us have lives outside of RC. The forum has been around so long that most of the actual moderation happens in response to member reported issues. There's no way we could actually read the 6-8,000 new posts we get each day. We rely, quite heavily, on members reporting when there's something that needs handling.

Cheers

That was really what my question was. I know that they lead lives like we do, I was wondering what they do, who they are. I was just curious.

Used to be. I brewed compteitively for a number of years. The "beerguy" nickname was what all my friends used to call me. I don't even drink anymore... lol
