I've heard that they generally eat stony corals, are they talking about lps, sps or both?

Both, there is a huge thread about what butterflies are reef safe, there are several that are hit and miss but several people in that thread had tried the Saddleback it always ended with them pulling the fish. You might get lucky if you get it small in a large tank and keep it well fed, but just be prepared to pull it if necessary.
