Angle of outflow pipe

Should I put a 90 degree PVC (1 1/4 in) just below the surface of my 90 gal reef dt or a 45 degree outlet so it points down a bit? Flow is 850 gph and height of tank is 24 in with three in sanded. Thanks. Is there some ideal depth I should have the outflow pipe. I'm thinking upper part of PVC to be in line with lowest part of teeth of overflow?

45 deg would have less restriction of flow than 90 to start with. If it was me I'd go with the 45 so it can point down a bit as you said
