I can't remember what the small anemones (not common brown Aiptasia) are commonly called.

I have discovered a few crystal clear anemones with white tips about 3/16" diameter.

Can't get a clear picture.

nuisance or non-nuisance?

any poor experience with these or are they to be treated as just another filter feeder?

Both considered pests. Ball anemone is what you seemed to have described and they can choke out other coral and spread like weeds. Pseudocorynactis is the family if you feel up to googling it. Never seen it happen, but they are non-photosynthetic and upon getting big they can consume small fish. They are not sessile and will move, sting other coral, etc

Ball for sure...

Good to know. Any other inputs before eradication begins?

I also have found a few of those ball anemones in my tank and am wondering how to get rid of them. I thought they were baby aiptasias so I aiptasia-x'ed them but 4 or 5 days later they were right back in the same spot. I also need to know how to get rid of them to.

I can tell you injected lemon juice doesn't work. They just pucker up for a day :lmao:, and a couple of mine at least moved out of the zoas they were bugging to other areas of the tank.

if you dont have kalk use mrs wager's. mix it, squirt and that should do it. they are a heavy feeders and will sting whatever is close to them. thwy are kinda pretty but after awhile will become a threat

Kalk paste will be "round one" today. I will post any feedback in a few days.

The coolest way that I have seen to date is blue lasers to instantly heat and kill the pest. The only worry I would have is the possibility of weakening and cracking the glass also, fwiw I have had orange ball nems in my tank for years. Never seem to be a problem as they confine themselves to the shaded areas not suitable for photosynthetic coral.

we had a couple 'strawberry ball anemones' they were cool to look at, never spread, never hurt anything

I have these in my tank so I can only share my observations...
They do spread easily. According to WWM they are not dangerous. I know they don't seem to bother my corals because I've had some that were living inbetween the polyps of some zoas and it didn't affect them at all. And on the base of my sour apple birdsnest. These are the kinds that stay small. They usually don't grow to more than 1/2" across so the most they could eat is a small collinista snail (which I see mine eat). I have clear ones and some that are pink colored.
But.....I can't stand having them in my tank. I started with dry rock so one must have come in on a coral or something. Makes me mad because I do everything to keep pests out of my tank. If you cover them with kalk that seems to do it. But the kalk has to stay on them. What I have been doing (besides the kalk) is taking my rock out of the water and using some sharp pointed tweezers and chipping them off with some rock underneath them. If you leave any part of them intact they will grow back. And the problem is that for what you can see there are so many more that are hidden and you can't see. I'm like a fiend at night with my flashlight after the lights go out looking for these things. I never had much of a problem with aiptasia and have none now. But these buggers are stubborn!! Just when I think I have them all out I find more. And there are some rocks I just can't get to. So as much as I try to get rid of them at least according to wet web media they don't seem to cause any damage to anything. And they definitely will not get big enough to eat a fish!
Hope that helps.

Great feedback, lady.

I have 4. One I got with kalk. One floated away. One is on-deck for "treatment" as I found it this morning. The other has gone UA (unauthorized absence) in the sand bed.

So I will get the ones I see. With only two left unaccounted for... only time can tell.

I have a 1.2w laser with an underwater host and it works pretty well on pest anemones, although it has difficulty with other stuff. I've managed to get some anthelia, GSP, and nuisance protopalys under control with it, but it took some extended lazing sessions. There isn't much more gratifying than listening to them sizzle & pop, though!

Oh I think I could have some fun with that!!! I'd love to zap some of those babies in my tank!
