Currently in my 70g I have a koralia, and 2 maxijets. I don't remember the specific sizes though. One of my maxi-jets is fried, and rather than replacing it I'd like to upgrade to vortech. I also have a Rio as my return pump - again I dont remember the actual size, but with a split on my return I get a ton of flow just from that.

Here soon I'd also like to pull the koralia for a nano I am planning, as it is the least powerful of my powerheads.

If I replace the broken maxijet AND the koralia with mp10s, will the flow be strong enough, or do I need to go with an mp40? I can't swing 2 mp40s right now, but I could get 2 mp10s.

I do not have experience with these pumps, and I don't know how comparable the flow is with koralias and MJs.

As always, your collective knowledge is much appreciated!!

My suggestion is to get one MP40 and keep the koralia that you already have, and between those two you will get the perfect flow

I myself run 4 MP10's in a 90g but I have them all on the back panel to eliminate pumps on the side. So it also may depend on where you wanna place them. if you are placing them on the sides then 1 MP40 and the koralia would be perfect, if placing them on the back panel then 2 MP10's may work.

I also prefer the MP10's. I had 1 MP40 and 1 MP10 in my 60 gallon and decided on returning the MP40 and bought two more MP10's. I prefer the lack of noise and the size. Also, you can really dial in different areas of flow in the tank with smaller pumps.

Is your tank 3ft or 4ft? And do you plan on upgrading any time?

What do plan on keeping SPS or softys? I have 2 mp10's and a mag 9.5 with a sea swirl for my return on my 46gal all sps and there is plenty of flow. The mp10's are more powerful then people make them out to be.I keep mine on reef crest at 90%

I have two 40s on my 4ft 120g and don't crank them up all the way. I'd be tempted to go with two MP10s for a 70 and have the wireless version so you could run them in anti-sync mode.

I don't think you would get enough flow with one mp40 in a 70 gallon if its a 4 ft tank.I've got one in my 65 on the side glass and its prefect.its a 3 ft tank.I agree with the previous posts about your best option would be 2 mp10

I asked this same question in the EcoTech forum and they said 1 MP40 for LPS tank and 2 MP40 for SPS tank in a 75G (48x21x18)

2 mp40 dialed way down would be ok but imo 2 would be overkill

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I have a 3ft tank, and only softies and lps right now. Its sounding like 2 mp10s may be the way to go. My concern with using the Koralia is that its really too small as it is - it's not the "nano" one but only one step up from that. I don't have plans to upgrade anytime soon.
