This will be my first attempt at a reef tank. I have 75 pounds of rock from a fowlr setup. Most will be in the sump. Tank measures 24x24x12. Any suggestions on led lighting? I'm thinking either an ecoxotic par38 or the aquaufo led. I have two 24 inch aquaticlife lights for supplemental lighting. Any other ideas?

Depends on what you want to keep, but a Radion, Maxspect Mazarra, orAI SOL would enable you to keep anything you want to (clams/SPS/etc)

And thanks for the quick response. All help is greatly appreciated.

A radion would be nice but pretty expensive. Can a par38 support soft corals and mushrooms. How many radions or par38s would be needed to sufficiently cover the tank?

A Radion is overkill, I run mine at 70% on my SPS/clam tank. PAR38 I would say you would need 2-3 to sustain anything.

A single Kessil would be enough for lower light corals, it's much cheaper and the spectrum looks great.

I have the same tank

I had a sol nano, and it worked well, but the sides of the tank were a little dim

currently looking at an ecoxotic 18, a chinese box or a DIY.

Anyone ever use the aqua UFO led? My Lfs has them on all of his frag tanks. He says they are great but does anyone else have experience with them?

Depending on the PAR bulb it could support anything, there are different configurations, some have 5, 7 or even 12 LEDS. If you get one with 12 and they are 3w you can support SPS and clams in the upper part of the tank.

In my experience with LED, 36w isn't going to be enough for SPS/Clams. It will have to be close to the water to get the right intensity, but then the tradeoff is coverage (you will get a spotlight effect). To get the right coverage and intensity, I'd say you would at minimum need 2 36w PAR bulbs.

I haven't used the UFO, but I currently have two of the Aquapanels for my 20 Long tank. I don't plan on doing any SPS or clams or anything like that. I'm more of a zoa's and mushroom kinda guy (at least for now, cause I'm a noob when it comes to corals). But my LFS also uses the UFO exclusively, and they seem to love them too. I know they claim to be as powerful, if not more powerful then a 500 watt MH.

I decided on a ecoxotic par 38. And just added a long tentacle anenome. I am at college right now but in a few days I can take more pics. The light is about 22 inches of the bottom of the tank.

Sorry first time really using this site. How do I add pics?

I think I am going to save for the aqua UFO and use the par38 as the sump light for cheato.

I use Photobucket to host the pics, then you can just copy and paste the picture with tags.

Hey I just built it myself. It was actually very easy as long as you have a table saw and some wood working skills.

I can send some pics to you of the basic design if you would like.

Did you get that tank pre drilled or did you do it yourself?

Where did you get it?

Looks good!

Hey I got it pre-drilled from my Lfs. Those are older pics. I have changed the tank around completely.

That would be awesome ! Great looking stand. I just don't like the deep blue stand , I feel it's not tall enough
