I have a 32 gallon rubbermade brute and I wanted to put some type of faucet near the bottom. I was looking for advice on the easiest/cheapest/fastest way to do this.

Thanks!

You should be able to add a bulkhead, piece of PVC and then a gate valve or any other type of valve that you like. I'm guessing about 15 mins and $15.

Do I need a special bulkhead since the can has a curve?

I kept mine simple. I used a 44 gallon Brute plastic trash can. The plastic is deformable and will flatten so long as you don't put it too close to the bottom curve. I took a short 1" ID PVC connector, slip/thread configuration. I used a door hole cutter to cut a hole just smaller than the PVC, I think a 7/8". This allowed me to thread the PVC through the hole. The hole expanded just enough to allow the connector to sit flush, then I put another connector on the inside and screwed down until the plastic wall was pinched flat between the two. I put silicone over all mated surfaces first, of course.

After that, it was a simple attachment to the outside connector of a 1" gate valve and an elbow to direct the flow downward and... VOILA!... a 44 gallon Brute trash can wih a spigot. Has been working well for 2 years now.

A standard bulkhead works. I have a 1/2" one that allows a 1/4" icemaker tubing QD to be screwed in. The Brute's plastic deforms and allows it to seal easily. I have it installed about 4" from the bottom.

I take it you already have the float valve and auto shutoff hardware

I used a standard bulkhead on my brute, works great and doesn't leak:

I did the exact same thing as ajn81. no leaks works like a champ.

So should I use a hole saw, or do you think a regular bit would work, or could I even just cut it with an exacto knife?

I really appreciate all of the suggestions! Does anyone think that I can use a razor knife, or should I stick with a drill?

I used a hole saw on mine, but I don't see why you couldn't use a razor knife other than the fact that it could be pretty difficult to make a precise cut.

To make the hole, I'd at least spend the $3 on a spade bit of the right size, but I'm kinda partial to my fingers.
