hi. changed my return pump to a snapper (or dart) and changed my sump as well. i have a limited for my sump wherein the max length is around 55 inches. Display tank (8ft, 200g) is maybe 6 ft above floor level.

sump is behind the doors marked with BIG X

which pump placement option is the best ?

option 1. the space for the sump is maximed but my head loss around 8ft. also the water goes 45 degrees up at one point.

option 2. sump size is less than option 1. head is around 7ft

option 3. sump size is the least among the 3 options. head is around 6ft.

Thanks.

i would go with option 2..

the #1 is nice because the sump is bigger but option 2 is straight in and straight out.
i think that the elbows in option 3 will have a weaker flow even if you are 12" closer.
option 1 you have 1 elbow plus the 45 deg and you are lower ..

thanks. the only problem i see with option 2 is that i dont have a gate vakve between sump drain and pump input. putting one means that i have to knock off another 6" from the sump.

i see !!! would it be possible to install the gate valve inside the sump ??
if you use the pvc ball valves it shouldn't be a problem.

1 or 2. If you can't fit the valve on 2 then go with 1.
