Ok so I went to my lfs and asked for refracto calibration fluid and they gave me a little packet of hanna instruments 800 ppm tds solution. Never seen it before but anyway got home put a couple of drops on the refracto and was off zero just a little bit. My question here is I thought calibration fluid was supposed to put your refracto at 1.026 since thats what we measure for? I'm I doing something wrong or did the idiot behind the counter give me something that has nothing to do with refracto calibration?

since it's a solution of known density you could probably use it to calibrate a refractometer using a conversion to PPT, but that's really not what it's made for.
