I assume you are talking about cleaning an empty tank. If so, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't clean it with tap water. Vinegar is also a cleaning agent that is great for cleaning aquariums.

well.... I always read bout people rinsing stuff down with ro water, So I guess I assumed i should use ro to clean everything. lol its bout garden hose time then.
last time around I used tap on the whole system... battles algae issues the entire time the tank was up.

Tap water & vinegar. Let it set & scrub till clean. Drain & rinse with garden hose then wipe dry with fish towel.

Some people are a little overzealous with this sort of thing. A little bit of tap water isn't going to hurt anything.

I'm just trying to think of the logistics of cleanings large tank with ro water, that sounds radiculous.

I agree that tap water should be fine for rinsing a tank.

It's pretty standard practice in most chemisty labs to give 3 tap water rinses followed up by a single RODI rinse. It is more effective to rinse multiple times instead of a large volume once.
I like to carry this over to my aquarium practices. Especially when; making up new saltwater, two part, after cleaning powerheads etc... where purity is a concern.
